Dhoni leaves Dehradun
India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni along with his new bride Sakshi, left from Dehradun on Monday, a day after their low-key marriage at a resort near the hilltown.
While many of Dhoni’s family members arrived at Ranchi on the day, the couple remained elusive.
The venue — Vishranti Resorts — located at the edge of Uttranchal’s protected sal forests in Kandolli village though was still abuzz with activity, with the camped media outside refusing to budge.
According to reports, few of the couple’s family members were still at the venue, forcing the police to keep the overnight security arrangements in place as a precautionary measure.
Kandolli, a sleepy and nondescript village near Dehradun, known more for its dense forests than celebrity weddings, has suddenly been thrown into the spotlight.
The only time it garnered even a speck of such attention was back in 2002, when Devyani — allegedly linked with slain Nepalese Prince Dipendra — stayed in the village for a few days soon after the massacre of the royal family at Kathmandu.
After the reception in Mumbai on Wednesday, which is expected to be a grand affair replete with film stars along with Team India members, Dhoni is set to fly to Colombo to resume his cricketing duties.
India play Sri Lanka in the first of three-match Test series beginning July 18.
