Eliminator will be a battle of nerves, says Srikkanth

Hyderabad coaching staff Tom Moody, Kris Srikkanth and V.V.S. Laxman will expect the journey to continue.

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s mentor Kris Srikkanth on Tuesday admitted that it will all “come down to holding nerve” in their eliminator against the Rajasthan Royals in IPL-6 here on Wednesday night.
“It will be a good match, a tough one,” said Srikkanth on match eve as the Sunrisers sweated it out at the Modern School grounds here. “We are very confident, the players are in a good mental shape and being positive is very important.
“In T20 cricket, the day’s performance counts. Both the sides are evenly matched and it will be a question of holding nerves at this stage. The mentally stronger team will hold the edge,” he said.
Praising his team for their brilliant run so far, Srikkanth said, “One great advantage is that we don’t believe in individuals, it has been a team effort.
“Our motto is self belief and positive energy. We have been in trouble so many times but someone or the other puts his hand up. As a bowling unit too, we have done brilliantly.”
Asked if the Royals were expected to come out as a strong unit on the morrow following the spot-fixing controversy, Srikkanth said he was “only concerned about his own team”.
“I don’t believe in comparing sides and eras. The biggest advantage is that someone with perform for us when the chips are down, when you have a low total the bowlers are charged up and know that picking wickets is the only option.
“In that mindset, they are parallel to the 1983 World Cup Indian team. There are no expectations and we go in as underdogs in every match, like it was in 1983,” he said.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.
