Focus wasn’t on Sachin: Scholars
Pune, Aug. 17: Their research on Test cricket may have pegged Virender Sehwag as a better batsman than Sachin Tendulkar, but economists John Mangan and Vani K. Borooah say the Master Blaster’s achivements have not been neglected.
“He comes in at an sixth position for contribution to team score. No. 11 for average-adjusted all time scores and number 13 out for value-adjusted average so this is all very impressive,” says lead researcher Mangan.
He says the emphasis of the research was solely on Bradman, and Tendulkar’s performances in the last four years were not taken into account. “The emphasis was on Bradman’s record, importance of a particular innings, who the opposition was. We didn’t concentrate on others great players such as Brian Lara, Tendulkar or Ricky Ponting.
“We only considered data up to 2006 and therefore the more recent performances have not been included. If we re-run the research to take into account the 2007-2010 data, Sachin may go even higher in rankings,” he added.
