Frame norms to pick cities for IPL, court tells BCCI
The Gauhati High Court on Wednesday directed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to publish its guideline and policy for selection of Indian Premier League (IPL) venues within three months’ time.
Disposing of the PIL of GLP Social Circle, a division bench of the court comprising Chief Justice A.K. Goel and Justice A.K. Goswami directed the BCCI to publish the guideline and policy for selection of cities for IPL teams on its website within three months.
The GLP Social Circle in its PIL had accused BCCI of ignoring Guwahati in selection of venues for new IPL teams.
The court in its order on October 25 had restrained the BCCI from “taking a final decision” on the tender floated on October 14 for selection of new teams for 2013 IPL tournament.
Advocate Niloy Dutta, who represented BCCI in the court argued that Guwahati was not selected as venue for IPL because Assam Cricket Association had expressed its inability in hosting the IPL team. Besides the security concern, the Assam Cricket Association does not have stadium fit for hosting the IPL matches. Senior advocate Ashok Saraf represented the petitioner in the court.
