Gangjee canters to six-stroke win
Kolkata’s Rahil Gangjee cantered to a comfortable six-stroke win at the PGTI Players Championship after a clinical two-under 70 in the final round in Chandigarh on Friday.
Gangjee ended his campaign with an impressive 13-under 275, well ahead of local golfer Sujjan Singh and Bangladesh’s Md Zamal Hossain Mollah who shared second place with seven-under 281 at the Chandigarh Golf Club.
The seasoned Jyoti Randhawa climbed from overnight tied 15th to tied fourth, signing off with a brilliant bogey-free 67, which also was the day’s best score. He totaled five-under 283 for the event.
Randhawa was joined by three others including Day Two leader Akshay Sharma (75), Abhijit Singh Chadha (72), both from Chandigarh, and Panchkula’s Angad Cheema (68).
Overnight leader Gangjee (67-71-67-70) was in control all through the day. The 35-year-old hit his drive to the right on the second hole but managed a birdie after a good third shot. Gangjee extracted another birdie on the 13th.
The only blemish on the RCGC golfer’s card was a bogey on the 15th, before he finally sealed his fourth pro title with an eight-foot birdie putt on the 18th.
“I hit some solid shots through the day. The intensity was there till the end and I didn’t let go of any chances. It’s great to win after such a long gap,” said Gangjee.
