‘I felt cheated’

The Delhi Police has roped in Rajasthan Royals captain Rahul Dravid, as a prosecution witness in connection with its IPL spot-fixing case.

The police may also call in RR coach Paddy Upton as another prosecution witness in the case. Upton is in South Africa and the cops are waiting for his return.
According to information, last Wednesday, a team from the Special Cell of Delhi Police went to Bengaluru, where they recorded Dravid’s statement under Section 161 of the CrPc.
A police source said, Delhi Police who called Raj Kundra to a police station to question him in connection with spot-fixing, did not do so with Dravid because of his star status and standing.
Dravid was sad while giving the statement to Delhi police, saying he had felt cheated by the conduct of his team players S. Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila when he first heard about their name in spot fixing.
Dravid told police he was totally clueless about spot-fixing when he was asked whether he had doubt that three players were doing something amiss.
“I never had any doubt about these players. I used to select players on a match-to-match basis. There was no pressure on me to select the in the final XI,” Dravid said in his statement.
Delhi Police once again said that Dravid has never been involved in spot fixing. The police said they recorded his statement to nail the tainted players and make a strong chargesheet.
Investigators have also sought the expert opinion of a former India bowler, who was shown the videos of the matches in which the alleged spot-fixing took place. “He made us understand the technicalities of the bowling,” said the officer.
The police have arrested 29 people including the three Rajasthan Royals players and several bookies who also have underworld links in connection with spot fixing.
Police arrested Sreesanth, Chavan and Chandila in Mumbai during the IPL on charges of spot-fixing.
Sreesanth and Chavan were in jail for about 27 days before being released on bail, while Chandila remains in custody.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
