ICC team inspects Eden Gardens ahead of WC
Jan. 25: Even till late in the evening on Monday, there was garbage and debris in and around the Cricket Association of Bengal premises thanks to the ongoing renovation process.
A good deal of hurried cleaning was carried out thereafter to prevent the ICC-delegation consisting of events manager Chris Tetley, general commercial manager Campbell Jamieson and stadium consultant Eugene Van Vuuren, from raising eyebrows during their final inspection of the Eden Gardens on Tuesday ahead of the World Cup.
However, according to the delegation, there’s still some work left in the venue to ensure complete cleanliness and they should be done “as early as possible.”
CAB president Jagmohan Dalmiya might well claim that the ICC representatives looked pleased but later it was learnt that there were some areas with which the delegation seemed a tad unconvinced. For instance, the Eden sightscreen still remains a concern. Said a senior CAB official, “They showed us the design of an ideal sightscreen today — one that suits batsmen the most. Anyhow, we hope the issue will be solved.”
