Impressive Mohit Sharma made the difference in fourth ODI
India's victory in the fourth ODI against Zimbabwe can be credited to the bowlers, especially to Mohit Sharma who ended with figures of 2 for 26 in his debut match. Sharma ran in hard and looked in good rhythm and went past the bat of Zimbabwean opener Sikander Raza a number of times before dismissing him by bowling a near pefect outswinger.
The ball landed on a good length on the line of off stump, drawing the batsman forward for a defensive push. The ball nipped away off the seam just enough to take the outside edge and wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik made no mistake, giving Sharma his first international wicket, a moment he will never forget in his life.
Although this Zimbabwean batting line-up does not have the firepower to test Sharma's skills as a bowler but international wickets does not come easy just like centuries. Mohit still had to land the ball in the right place to get the wicket and every wicket at the international level has its own value, be it a weak Zimbabwean side.
Sharma looks to be in good shape and this tour of Zimbabwe will help improve as a bowler. Rubbing shoulders with the likes of Kohli and Raina and wearing the Indian colours will certainly motivate him to grow in leaps and bounds as a player.
Sharma also has the ability to bring the ball back in to the right-hander and his Ranji Trophy performance playing for Haryana this year has been more than impressive where he picked up 37 wickets in seven matches at an average of 23. His performance was rewarded with a spot in the Indian side for the tour of Zimbabwe.
Sharma has been working very closely with Ian Pont, a renowned coach who played for Essex and his consistent performance in the IPL also grabbed a lot of attention.
India have picked up in the pace bowling department in the past couple of years with quite a few youngsters coming up the ranks. Still early days as our country has a habit of producing good pace bowlers only fade away after promising much initially.
