India should play with three spinners

The important phase of the World Cup is underway and there is not an iota of doubt that India is in a very tough group. Both India and their first opponent in the Super Eight phase, Australia, have been in sublime form.

Australia played superb cricket against West Indies and though it rained off I strongly believe that Australia would have sailed past the West Indies total.

Australia has a good batting line-up for the T-20 format led by Shane Watson, who is in superlative form in the tournament, both with bat and ball.

His success goes on to show what difference genuine all-rounders can create for any team in any format of the game. But there is one question mark about the Aussies.

How is it, that David Hussey is not finding a place in the eleven? We have seen very little of Glen Maxwell but I can vouch that the younger Hussey is any day better than him.

Australia definitely has a good pace attack. The combination of Cummins, Starc and Watson will command respect.

Brad Hogg is a big strength in the Australian spin attack and more so in the conditions prevailing in Sri Lanka.

As for India, a few questions need to be answered. Where does Sehwag stand in this tournament? Does he get to play or does he sit out? I have a feeling that Viru may miss out this game.

Next is about three spinners. Should India go with three spinners? My answer is yes. The way they bowled against England commands my vote in their favour.

Australians will play fast bowling well. But the Indians will need to remember, they will play second game of the day, on a wicket that is expected to be dry and so three spinners is a must.

Zaheer Khan will be and should be back as the premier bowler and Zaheer, Irfan along with three spinners will be the real way forward.
