Ingram boosts Proteas to 230
South Africa, after losing the toss, made 230/6 against the West Indies in their winner-takes-all Champions Trophy Group B match at Cardiff on Friday.
Opener Colin Ingram top-scored with 73 and useful late runs came during a fifth-wicket stand of 68 in 48 balls between Faf du Plessis (35) and David Miller (38) in a match reduced by rain to 31 overs per side.
Whichever team wins this match will join already-qualified India as one of the two Group B teams going into the semi-finals.
A minimum of 20 overs per side is needed to declare a result. If more bad weather means that mark cannot be reached, South Africa will go through to the last four because of their superior net run-rate.

Essex bowled out for 20
English county side Essex on Friday posted their lowest total since 1901 after Lancashire bowled them out for just 20. Essex were already behind by 125 runs after the Red Rose made 398 in their first innings in a second division county championship match at Chelmsford.
But Lancashire ripped through the Essex batting, dismissing six batsmen for ducks. Top scorer was opener Jaik Mickleburgh with 10. Veteran seamer Glenn Chapple took 5/9 from 7.2 overs while Kyle Hogg took 4/11. Essex captain James Foster was run out. Lancashire won the game by an innings and 105 runs.
Essex’s previous worst was 30 against Yorkshire 112 years ago. — AFP
