IPL-5: Bulls charged up for the mega battle
Cameron White ended the fourth edition of the Indian Premier League by captaining the Deccan Chargers to an 82-run victory over Kings XI Punjab at Dharamsala.
And now, he will begin the fifth edition of IPL as the captain of the Bulls in their home match against Rajasthan Royals, courtesy the absence of the Kumar Sangakkara, who will not be able to make it in time for the match after Sri Lanka’s second Test against England.
“It’s always good to lead a side. The last time I captained the Chargers we won. So hopefully I would be able to win the first match and then pass the job to Sangakkara,” said White. “Also, I have been to India a quite a few times now, so adapting to the situation won’t be that difficult. And Hyderabad is nice city so hopefully it would be a good start.”
White also said that, though the absence of Ishant Sharma is definitely a loss, the bowlers like Manpreet Gony are capable of stepping up to the plate. “Ishant is no doubt a loss. But I am sure the rest of the bowlers will step up and do well.”
“We have a lot youngsters in the team. So it is a good opportunity for them. They can also learn from experienced players like Sangakkara. So I believe it’s a right mix and we can do well in the tournament,” he added.
