IPL-5: Rain delays match between Kolkata and Deccan
Thunderstorm coupled with heavy showers have delayed the start of the Indian Premier League match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Deccan Chargers at the Eden Gardens here on Tuesday.
Showers accompanied by lightning, which began around the scheduled toss time of 7.30 pm, led to covering the ground. There was no let up as rain and thunderstorm started intensifying, thus affecting the proceedings at the venue for the second time this season.
There is little indication of the start of the proceedings as the thunderstorm has gained steam and had also blown away the covers.
The cut-off time of the match is 11:10 pm. And if the weather clears out, there can be a minimum of 5-over-a-side game.
But that looks highly unlikely as Meteorological Department has forecast more thunderstorms towards late evening.
"It is expected that a squall with 50kmph velocity will hit Kolkata around 10pm," a Met official said.
Kolkata Knight Riders vs Delhi Daredevils match was also affected by rain on April 5, where the hosts went down to Delhi outfit by eight wickets in a 12-over-a-side match.
In case of a wash out, one point will be awarded to each team.
