IPL helped, says Watson
Mohali, Oct. 1: It was an uncharacteristic knock from a batsman who has forced his way into the Test side and into the opener’s role on the basis of his ability to dominate attacks. But given Shane Watson’s knowledge of Indian conditions thanks to multiple Indian Premier League stints, he was perhaps the best man to hold fort on a pitch that played slow and low.
“I’ve been so lucky to be able to come here so many times, especially recently, and really feel comfortable with the Indian surroundings, and the IPL has been the thing that’s really helped me feel comfortable. Because you’re playing for an Indian team, you start to understand how things work here
a lot more, whether it’s the players themselves or the conditions.”
Watson said his laborious hundred on Friday was his best Test knock so far. “It was a test of my concentration, my goal has been to bat a day of Test cricket… it was nice to be able to do that.”
