It’s a fitting finale, says Hussey

Veteran batsman Michael Hussey’s brilliant run in IPL-6 has played an critical role in Chennai Super Kings reaching their fifth final and the humble Australian is all fired up to do it one last time in the final against the Mumbai Indians in the final here on Sunday.

But the 37-year-old has said that even if the law of averages caught up with him in the grand finale, CSK could count on their other players to see them through. “We don’t rely on just one player to do the job, that’s been the strength of CSK. Everyone contributes and we are very lucky to have players all the way down the list,” Hussey said here.
“I will try to do my part and if it doesn’t come off, we have the knowledge that there are players who can win us the game.
Hussey, the leading scorers in the league this season with six half-centuries to his credit, played a stellar role in CSK’s win over the same opponents in Qualifier 1 at the Kotla in Delhi along with Suresh Raina. He, however, reckons that the final will be a tough game and little things can prove the difference between the winners and the losers.
“We have had some tough battles with them not just this season but over the course of the six seasons. In the final anything can happen and we will try to focus on our own performances.
“It’s going to be tight game and I am sure the difference will be one great catch or a great piece of fielding, a run out.”
The spot-fixing and the betting saga has held centrestage in the week gone by and have fired up many a players to come up with something exceptional to overshadow the row but Hussey believes that it’s a motivation in itself to have made the final for the fifth time. “We don’t need any more motivation. To be here in the final is motivation itself. We will be very excited to be here at the ground tomorrow. MI have been a brilliant team this season and CSK have been consistent over the last six seasons. It’s a fitting finale for the tournament.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
