Kirorimal strong contenders
Delhi’s Kirorimal College are strong contenders to emerge as the best team in the country as the Red Bull College Cricket enters its final stages scheduled to be held from January 14 to January 19 in Mysore.
The Kirorimal team have been the consistent performers so far and are among the 12 winners, who won their respective city legs. The 12 teams will participate in a qualifying tournament at Mysore’s Gangotri Glades ground and the JSE grounds to identify the semi-finalists.
The semi-finals are scheduled on January 18th, while the national final will be played the next day.
The winning team will be crowned the best college team in the country, and will also have a chance to compete with sides from across the globe in a T20 styled meet for the coveted title of the Red Bull College Cricket World Series Championship.
The World Series Championship will be held in Bengaluru and will comprise of cricket powerhouses Pakistan, Sri Lanka, England, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, the West Indies, apart from hosts India.
The national final will also give a chance to the youngsters to get their first brush with the Indian Premier League as five outstanding players will be selected from the finalists to be a part of the development squad of IPL-5 champions Kolkata Knight Riders.
“Red Bull College Cricket is a great launch pad for college cricket. Given the quality I saw last year, I am sure there are plenty of careers which we will be able to give wings to,” KKR captain Gautam Gambhir said.
