Knights restrict Super Kings hat trick
Lesser-known Manvinder Bisla made it the night of Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL-5. Unfazed by skipper and consistent opener Gautam Gambhir’s early fall in a chase, he slammed Chennai Super Kings bowlers all around MA Chidambaram Stadium dominating a stand with the seasoned Jacques Kallis.
The defending champions had put up a handsome total of 190 on a good Chepauk pitch but their bowlers were not up to the task of defending the target.
Bisla’s 89 off 48 balls was to be the clear highlight of a batsmen’s day. It eased the path of first-time winners KKR even as the team’s co-owner Shah Rukh Khan was prominent cheering from the front row of a stand on the upper tier of a packed stadium.
KKR still needed the hitting prowess of Kallis, which he rarely displays even in the shortest format, to provide the steadying touch to grab the trophy from the champions at the finish. Manoj Tiwary carried his team across the line defying the nine runs needed off the last over with two crisp pulls off Dwayne Bravo for four and the win came with two balls to spare.
