Last hour was disappointing, rues Taylor
Hyderabad, Nov. 14: One of the highlights of the ongoing India-New Zealand Test series has been the emergence of Harbhajan Singh as a front-line batsman. The statistics show that he is just one run short of overtaking Virender Sehwag (270) as the leading run-scorer in the series. And that is not all; he is fast closing the doors of recovery for his hapless opponents.
When informed about this bit of information to New Zealand’s Ross Taylor, he said, “I did not know about this statistic. Bhajji surely has been playing well against us.” “Players such as Virender Sehwag and Bhajji do not allow the bowlers to settle and it becomes difficult to execute anything. Obviously, we will have to change our plans for Bhajji,” he added.
For all those who thought Bhajji hitting his maiden hundred in Motera was a flash in the pan, the Sardar has once again put India on top, with the opposition running for cover. “Bhajji was hitting us all over the park. The final hour was very disappointing. Bhajji read the conditions well and hurt us. Sreesanth too supported him well. Ideally, conceding a lead of 30-40 runs would have been fine. But that is not the case now,” Taylor said at the end of the day’s play.
With the visitors on the backfoot, the plan of action according to the Kiwi is to get rid of the last pair at the earliest. “The first target will be to get the last wicket and then bat for the rest of the day,” Taylor pointed out.
