Misbah, Whatmore meet to discuss Pak's future cricket plans

Pakistan cricket captain Misbah-ul-Haq has held a meeting with the national team's recently-appointed foreign coach Dav Whatmore to plan for future training camps and introduction of new players.
A well-placed source in the Pakistan Cricket Board said Misbah and Whatmore had held a meeting in which they discussed plans for a month long conditioning and training camp and the introduction of new and upcoming players in the camp.
"Basically Whatmore has prepared a short list of around 30 probables to attend the camp after watching the national super eights Twenty20 championship in Rawalpindi and he wanted to discuss them with Misbah," the source said.
"The two apparently have consensus on most of the players shortlisted for the proposed camp in Lahore," the source added.
The PCB has not ruled out the possibility of having specialist squads in future for all three formats of the sport and the source said Misbah and Whatmore were also looking into this possibility.
"Both Misbah and Whatmore are in agreement that the camp will give them an opportunity to look at the new players and those discarded from the team and prepare well in time for the coming assignments," the source said.
Chief selector Iqbal Qasim told agencies that he would also be travelling to Lahore on Friday to meet Misbah, Whatmore and PCB officials to discuss the proposed camp.
"We need to sit down and discuss different proposals. If they are interested in having a camp,we will try to support them as much as we can," Qasim said.
"Some of the younger players are exciting prospects and it will be good if the coaches can work with them ahead of our next international assignment against Sri Lanka," he added.
Pakistan had emerged winner in the 2009 Twenty20 World Cup after defeating Sri Lanka by eight wickets.
