Mithun to replace Zaheer
Karnataka pacer Abhimanyu Mithun was drafted into the Indian Test squad for the three-match Sri Lanka Test series beginning June 18 at Galle, after bowling spearhead Zaheer Khan was ruled out with a shoulder injury.
The latest injury is yet another setback for Zaheer, who has been in and out of the Indian team over the last one year, owing to one injury or the other.
In fact, the 31-year-old was out of action for a long time last year, having injured his shoulder during the 2009 IPL in April. Zaheer had undergone surgery in South Africa.
Mithun broke into the Test squad for the South Africa series in February this year although he didn’t get to play a game.
But Mithun has been on selectors’ radar since he made his debut in the domestic circuit, emerging as the highest wicket taker last season.
The 20-year-old is currently in England as part of the India ‘A’ team.
