Hyderabad: So close yet so far. That was the story of Hyderabad's agonising ouster from the Moin-udDowla Gold Cup invitation cricket tournament here on Sunday .
Hyderabad had ended their first innings a mere four runs away from Delhi's total in the semifinal played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium. With one day remaining, the dice were loaded in Delhi's favour and an inconvenient downpour ensured the match ended in a draw and Delhi went through.
The other semifinal, at the ECIL ground, saw Tamil Nadu, who fought back against Karnataka valiantly, progress to the title round, also by the virtue of their first innings lead.
Taking strike at the beginning of the day’s play, Delhi galloped to 307 for 8 in just 40 overs, thanks mainly to Milind Kumar’s 74-ball unbeaten 101. The skies opened up by the time Hyderabad
reached 11 for 1 in their second innings, rendering impossible any further play.
K.L. Rahul stroked a fine 102 for Karnataka, but the five-run lead they had conceded on the sec
ond day meant all their efforts to win the match went in vain as the rain forced play to be called off early.
Karnataka made 242 in their second innings and Tamil Nadu reached 13 for no loss before the match was halted.

Milind 2/46, Pragyan Ojha 2/85, A. Ashish Reddy 2/46) drew with Hyderabad 383/8 & 11/1 in 3.2 overs (Play called off due to rain).
