Mumbai: The Indian cricket board will continue to oppose the use of DRS, according to BCCI's newly-appointed secretary Sanjay Patel. “We are firm in our stand against DRS. It's not going to change unless there is some decision at the BCCI's working committee meeting,” Patel said.
Taking final call on DRS may not be on the ICC's agenda at the annual general meeting (AGM) in London later this month. The ICC's cricket committee chairman, Anil Kumble, is also believed to have opposed the idea to make the use of DRS mandatory.
According to the ICC Board minutes, N. Srinivasan, who has stepped aside as BCCI president, had threatened to terminate the Future Tour Programme (FTP), if DRS was made compulsory. “Mr.Srinivasan explained that BCCI's position was that it wished to retain the right to unilaterally terminate the FTP Agreement, should it be required to use DRS in any bilateral matches,“ reads the minutes. Patel is set to attend the chief executives' meet prior to the Board Members meeting.
