NK Khanna Club enter quarters
NK Chand Khanna Cricket Club beat Rohtak Road Gymkhana by eight runs in a closely contested match to reach the quarter-finals of the 39th all-India Goswami Ganesh Dutt memorial cricket tournament in the capital on Tuesday.
Rohtak Road Gymkhana won the toss and invited the opponents to bat.
Reeling at 87/7 in 17 overs, Khanna Cricket Club were rescued by Jagrit Anand’s 80-ball 71 (7x4, 2x6). Anand put up an eighth-wicket stand worth 114 runs along with Sanjay Saini (60 not out, 75 balls, 3x4, 3x6) to power the team to a respectable 232/8 in their stipulated 40 overs.
Jatin Dalal of Rohtak Road Gymkhana was the most notable bowler for the side, snapping up 3/16 in eight overs.
In the chase, Rohtak Road Gymkhana were going strong at 148/2 until good spells from Wasim Ahmed (3/48), Farman Ahmed (2/55) and Anand (1/9) pegged them back. The team never recovered from the setback and could only reach 224/8 in 40 overs. Arun Drall top-scored for the losing side with 68.
Anand was named the man of the match.
On Thursday, DDCA President XI will meet Teddco Cricket Club at the St. Stephen’s College grounds, after a rest day on Wednesday.
