Not paid: Sanga, Marsh
Jan. 6: Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara and Australian batsman Shaun Marsh have written to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about non-payment of dues from Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) — the franchise they represented during the first three editions of Indian Premier League.
“Yes, Sangakkara had written to the BCCI about non-clearance of his dues. The matter came up for discussion during yesterday's governing council meeting,” a senior official said. However, the Kings XI Punjab spokesperson in an e-mail claimed otherwise.
“We would like to confirm that all dues to players have already been paid,” the release stated. It has been learnt that the players have expressed their apprehensions about playing for Kings XI Punjab in case they happen to pick them from the upcoming auctions.
Sangakkara was bought by KXIP during the first auction for $700,000. Incidentally, the management handed him the captaincy during the last edition removing Yuvraj Singh who led the team during the first two editions.
Not only Sangakkara, there are a few other players also who have played for either KXIP or Rajasthan Royals but are yet receive full payment.
Dada for MI?
According to sources, former India captain Sourav Ganguly has expressed his desire to play for Mumbai Indians in the IPL-4.
Ganguly is hoping MI will pick him during the auction. “Sourav is very disappointed that KKR decided not to retain him. He had never thought that they would let him go. Now, he wants to play with his close friend, Sachin Tendulkar,” said a source.
