Numerous issues troubling Team India in Australia

Australia romped to a big win against India under their stand-in leader Ricky Ponting but the day after guiding the team to such a convincing win Ponting is dropped from the Aussie one-day side.

I personally believe, with so many new faces coming across and with the return of the likes of Shane Watson it will be difficult for the great Punter to make a way back in to the Aussie one-day side. Judging by the mood in Australia, Ricky Ponting and Mike Hussey have had the sword hanging on them for long. They came through with flying colours in the Test series.

On Sunday Ponting failed and has been shown the door from one-day cricket, Mike Hussey came through and has survived. But one will never be able to forget Ponting’s contribution for Australia in this shortened version. He has been part of the three World Cup wins for his country, out of which he captained in two. It will not be an over-statement if I were to say that in 2003 world cup final we lost to Ricky Ponting. His cricketing feats on the ground will not be a real measure of his talent, attitude and his huge ability. Well, goodbye Punter from the one-day scenario but would want to watch you in the Test arena for some more time.

Coming to the tri-series one can say, all is not well for India before they get on to the ground at Brisbane for a crucial tie against Sri Lanka. Their skipper and the most consistent batsman in this one-day series, Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been banned for this match and will have to sit out the crucial tie against SrI Lanka.

They are most likely not going to get the service of seasoned pro Sachin Tendulkar due to injury and there are reports in the media that Sehwag is physically not hundred percent okay. If that be so, then India, after having lost to Australia by a big margin in the last game, will not be at their best mentally.

The team has to really get a push from somewhere to turn around situation because if a reversal happens in the game against Sri Lanka on Tuesday then it will surely be a big blow to the team’s opportunity of making it to the final of the tri-series. India really needs to buck up and make improvement in all departments if they are to reach the final and keep the trophy to themselves which they had won in 2008.

There has been much talk about rotation but even after players have failed to deliver in the five matches already played they have been persisted with.

To win in a one-day match you surely need smart and sharp fielding but fielding alone cannot win you matches if the batters are not capable enough to put runs on the board consistently. To be precise, a few of the batters are perishing in the same manner every game.

So at times you would need to put them on the bench, give them an opportunity to rectify faults, clear the mind of any cobwebs, if there be any and in the meantime give chance to people who are waiting on the side bench for quite some time now.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
