Oz lose Hussey, Doug for ODI
Oct. 21: The Aussies suddenly appear a fragile lot, what with Doug Bollinger and Mike Hussey being packed off straightaway to Australia, while captain Michael Clarke, who was treated at a private nursing home in the city for a knee injury, looks vulnerable enough to miss the final One-Dayer in Goa.
Cricket Australia physiotherapist Kevin Sims said, “Doug reported some minor discomfort, during his rehabilitation from the previous injury.” “We do not think the new issue is serious however it will prevent him from achieving the workloads necessary for him to be available for selection in the third one-day match in Goa. Therefore we have decided it is in his best interests to return to Australia for further assessment and to outline further rehabilitation. Doug’s return-to-cricket date will be finalised following this assessment,” Sims added.
Hussey will return to Australia following the second one-day international game, allowing him to play in West Australia’s Weet-Bix Sheffield Shield clash with South Australia.
National Selection Panel Chairman Andrew Hilditch said: “As part of the ongoing individual work load management ahead of a an exciting Australian Summer and the ICC Cricket World Cup in the subcontinent, Mike Hussey will not play in the third one-day game in India and will return home to Australia.”
Australia are 0-1 down in the three-match series after the opening game in Kochi was washed out.
