Oz set to unleash Mitchell-II
Visakhapatnam, Oct. 19: If you thought the absence of Mitchell Johnson from the Australian ranks would hit them hard, then you are mistaken. His namesake, Mitchell Starc, is geared up for his debut against the India here on Wednesday.
The similarity between the Mitchells does not end in their name. The two have identical delivery strides before the release at the crease. Starc was hurrying most batsmen on a flat wicket that and some of them were completely at sea. With Doug Bollinger still a doubtful starter, skipper Michael Clarke said that the tall left-armer could be given his debut cap.
“As far as Starc is concerned, there is a big chance for him to make his debut in the second one-dayer,” Clarke said. “Starc looks like an exciting young prospect for us as he generates a lot of bounce that can trouble the best in the business.”
Interestingly, Starc was a wicketkeeper till five years back and it was bowling coach Troy Cooley who spotted him and the rest, as they say, is history. For his part the paceman states that he never modelled his action on anyone. “I want to do things that work for me and not try to be someone else,” he said.
However, the difference in the two pacers seems to be in their height and the pace they generate. Starc is taller than Johnson but the latter definitely scores in bringing in more speed with the cherry. One Mitchell may be far away from the action, but the other could come in handy at Visakhapatnam. Going by India’s past-record at handling the short-stuff, the idea of bringing in Mitchell part-2 could pay rich dividends for Clarke and Co.
