Ponting fined after row with umpire
Melbourne, Dec. 27: Australian skipper Ricky Ponting was fined 40 per cent of his match fee by the ICC on Monday after clashing with umpires over an unsuccessful video review during the fourth Ashes Test against England.
With his team struggling on the field, Ponting argued with umpire Aleem Dar and then spoke with the other official Tony Hill after Kevin Pietersen was adjudged not to have edged the ball to the wicketkeeper. The ICC said Ponting pleaded guilty to a charge of “arguing or entering into a prolonged discussion with the umpire about his decision.” Pietersen was on 49 when Brad Haddin persuaded Ponting to ask for a review of the decision to give him not-out.
But replays failed to show an edge and Pietersen stayed, much to the annoyance of Ponting, who argued with both umpires and exchanged sharp words with Pietersen about the decision, believing he had made contact with the ball.
