Proud to be part of this No.1 team, says Sachin
Mumbai, Jan. 28: Sachin Tendulkar swept the annual Castrol Awards for cricketing excellence announced here on Friday. The Little Master was adjudged the Castrol Indian Cricketer of the Year as well as Test batsman of the Year. He was also given a special award for his record feat of becoming the first batsman to hit a double century in ODIs and score 50 Test centuries.
Tendulkar said he was delighted to prove the critics of the Indian team wrong as they successfully retained their top ranking in Tests.
“Many people thought we would be on top for only 30-40 days when we achieved the No.1 position after defeating Sri Lanka at home last year. After losing the first Test to South Africa at Nagpur, we heard we would lose the No.1 spot. But after more than a year we are still standing there. It is fantastic to be a part of this competitive team,” he said.
Tendulkar was also given a prize money of Rs 9 lakh. “I feel extremely proud to be part of this team. To get to the No.1 spot was not easy. We had to face a lot of challenges and we supported each other,” he added.
He said that his performance slump in 2007 was due to a spate of injuries. “I underwent three to four surgeries and it took four to four-and-a-half months to recover from that. But since 2007, I am feeling good and have not had any major injuries,” he said.
