Ready for kick-start, says Sehwag
Bengaluru, Feb. 11: Such is the fearsome reputation of Virender Sehwag, that it sends a chill down the opposition bowlers’ spine. The dashing opener, a key component of India’s World Cup campaign, revealed that his fearless strokeplay comes from the confidence that he has in the middle-order that follows him.
On Friday, he sent a warning to his opponents, saying he was looking to snatch the initiative. “I know in the middle-order we have Yuvraj Singh, M.S. Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Yusuf Pathan and Virat Kohli, so I can go after the bowling straight from the first ball,” said Sehwag.
“But nowadays, I just try to see through the first three-four overs and make sure that I give a good start so that when I get out and the middle order comes, they can take their time and go after the bowling,” he said.
Blessed with an exceptional hand-eye co-ordination, the Delhi Dasher feels that playing his natural game brings the best out of him. “Nobody is telling me what to do. The good part of Team India is the fact that the coach and the captain allow me to bat the way I know to bat. They don’t put any pressure on me,” before adding, “My role is to go out there and enjoy and give a good start. I’m happy if I score 20 runs in 10 balls or may be 100 in 70-80 balls.”
