Reagan runs riot against City

Dec. 1: Reagan Pinto smashed an unbeaten century as Goa grabbed advantage on the first day of their Ranji Trophy Plate division league match against Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium here.

Put in to bat, the visitors rattled up 334 for 5 as Hyderabad’s inadequate bowling attack lay exposed on Wednesday.

Barring the first two wickets, which fell with 50 on the board, there was nothing for Hyderabad to cheer about as Reagan took charge. The centurion was still holding fort after making 106 from 217 balls, 14 of which have been despatched to the boundary.

It was the second successive century for the 19-year-old, who hit 123 to set up his side’s victory over Jharkhand in the previous match. He was not picked for Goa’s first two games — against Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan — this season.

Keeping Reagan company when stumps were drawn was No.7 Saurabh Bandekar, on a firm 46 that includes six boundaries. The two have already put on 65 for the unbroken sixth wicket stand.

Partnerships were the key to Goa’s innings with Reagan being the central figure. He first put on 47 for the third wicket with Vidyut Sivaramakrishnan before the latter was trapped leg before by Alfred Absolem seven runs short of his half-century. Reagan then rallied with former India wicketkeeper Ajay Ratra to raise 87 for the fourth wicket.

After Ratra fell, caught by his opposite number Ibrahim Khaleel off Md Khader for 51, Reagan amassed 85 runs along with Rahul Keni for the fifth wicket to fortify Goa.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
