Report card on Dhoni's go-to men

Ravindra Jadeja: After years of backing Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni can finally give himself a pat on his back as the southpaw is finally delivering consistently. Jadeja has become India's answer to an all-rounder, although how far he lives to this tag is yet to be known. But what's pleasing to the eye is the regularity of match-winning performances that Jadeja has been churning out these days. Add to this the amount of utility he provides to the team — be it batting, bowling or fielding -- Jadeja has excelled in all departments of the game. Jadeja has easily replaced Yuvraj Singh as Dhoni's go-to man, a tag that was hold firmly by Yuvi in his hey days.Shikhar Dhawan: Thanks to Dhawan's superb power hitting performances in his brief international cricket career in all formats, fans aren't missing Sehwag much. In fact, fans seem to prefer Dhawan more these days because of the consistency he has displayed. And India's improved performances in recent times is much due to some solid opening partnerships - Dhawan and Vijay in Tests and Rohit Sharma and Dhawan in ODIs - something that Gambhir-Sehwag duo failed to churn out after the World Cup.Ravichandran Ashwin: That only a handful of players, who was part of the World Cup winning team in 2011, has made it to the tri-series in West Indies speaks of the volume of the change that this Indian cricket team has gone through and for the better with the World Cup 2015 in mind. And one of the important members is Ashwin, who has shouldered the responsibility of the leading strike bowler with great ease. With Jadeja for company, the two spinners hunt in pairs and make the batsmen run for cover.Virat Kohli: Kohli is proving to be backbone of the Indian batting line-up as he has ably taken the responsibility of a senior batsman after the retirement of Sachin and ouster of Sehwag and Gambhir from the team. The most improved aspect of Kohli's batting nowadays is that he's ready to curb his aggressive instincts and play as per the demand of the game.Bhuvneshwar Kumar: The young lad from UP has been impressive in the limited opportunities he has received at the top level. If he is nurtured well and keeps himself away from injuries, Bhuvi can have long run in the international scene.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
