Salwan Boys bag Coca-Cola Cup

Making the most of home advantage, New Delhi’s Salwan Boys School bested CAV Inter College of Allahabad by 20 runs in the final of the U-16 Coca-Cola Cup at the Jamia grounds on Tuesday.

Salwan won the toss and though they lost opener Shivam Chauhan early, the other batsmen showed grit to help post a solid score. Nitin Tanwar scored a 47, Rajesh Tangri added 40 but it was Kaif Ahmed’s blistering 88 in 64 balls with three sixes and four boundaries that really boosted the Salwan total.
For the UP side, Amar Choudhary was the pick with 3/50 in 10 overs.
In reply, CAV Inter College started well but kep losing wickets steadily to the Salwan attack. Rahul Sharma top-scored with 77 while Vipin Kumar made 40 as the Delhi school’s bowlers led by Prashant Vashisth (3/56) kept a lid on their innings,
Kaif Ahmed was adjudged man of the match.
Salwan Boys walked away with a cash prize of `1 lakh and the trophy, while the runners-up took home `70,000 and Trophy. Nitin Tanwar was adjudged player of the tournament, Amar Choudhary, the best bowler and Kaif Ahmed, the best batsman.
