Salwan boys win U-16 title
Shivam Chauhan’s 81 and Nitin Tanwar’s all-round performance helped Salwan Boys Senior Secondary School, Rajinder Nagar, thrash Kulachi Hansraj Model School of Ashok Vihar by 10 wickets in the final of the Coca-Cola Cricket Cup Under-16 inter-school tournament at the Jamia Milia Islamia grounds in the capital.
Kulachi Hansraj won the toss and opted to bat, but failed to cash in on the opportunity. Shivam and Vikas Dikshit top scored with 45 and 43 respectively, but the rest of the batsmen struggled to build partnership as the team put up 148/7.
For Salwan, Bharat Sharma, Sahil Sharma and Tanwar scalped two wickets each.
In reply, Chauhan and Tanwar smashed unbeaten 81 and 63 runs respectively, to knock off the target in just 27.3 overs to help the team clinch the Delhi leg of the event.
Tanwar, who has represented the Delhi Under-16 team, was adjudged the man of the match for his all-round show. Mukulit Bhatt of Kulachi Hasraj was adjudged the man of the series. The best batsman and best bowler awards were bagged by Chauhan (210) and Suraj Rai (10 wickets).
