This Sandhu is from down under

Chennai: Amidst so many great names, a 20-year-old young man of Punjabi origin in the baggy green jersey caught the eye of many at MRF Pace Foundation.
Gurinder Singh Sandhu who is tipped to be a part of the future Australian bowling attack had no hesitations in speaking his mind on Sunday.
After summing up his dad’s life in India 30 years ago and playing cricket in his childhood days in Australia, Gurinder narrated his journey to the doorsteps of becoming an international cricketer.
“It started with the U-19 World Cup last year. Craig McDermott was our bowling coach for the tournament. I had a reasonably good tour. We should have won the title but lost to India in the final. It was a quick rise for me. I played well in a couple of Sheffield Shield matches besides having good outing in a few domestic one-day games. I have high hopes for the next season,” said Gurinder.
The Australian, who won the New South Wales player of the year award in 2013, is also handy lower-order batsman. His defence was solid when he had a hit in the nets.
“It is a little bit easy batting here as the ball lacks movement and bounce unlike Australia. As a bowler, I need to spot to the ideal length and try to bowl as many dot balls as possible to put the batmsan under pressure. My plans are simple for these wickets,” added Gurinder.
The strongly-built lad can’t wait to test the city’s gastronomic delgihts. “I would love to go out with the boys for Chennai food,” he said.
Gurinder hopes to gain a lot from this trip of India along with five other youngsters from down under — Josh Hazlewood, Joel Paris, Matthew Fotia, Kurtis Patterson and Peter Handscomb.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
