Sehrawat, Kaif script AI victory
Incisive bowling by medium pacer Shakti Sehrawat (4/51) and a swashbuckling performance by Mohammad Kaif (76) helped Air India beat Sporting Club by three wickets in the semi-finals of the 37th Lala Raghubir hot weather cricket tournament at Modern School in the capital on Saturday.
Batting first, Sporting Cricket Club posted 246/8 in 40 overs, largely thanks to Umang Sharma (81) and Rohit Saini (38). Man of the match Sherawat was the pick of the bowlers for Air India.
In reply, Air India overhauled the target in 39.5 overs. Besides Kaif, Rahul Yadav (55) and R.R. Parida (32) were also the notable contributors. On Sunday, ONGC face Collage Group in the second semi-final.
Scores: Sporting Cricket Club 246/8 in 40 overs (Umang Sharma 81; Shakti Sehrawat 4/51) lost to Air India 248/7 in 39.5 overs (Mohammad Kaif 76, Rahul Yadav 55; Bharat Awasthi 2/40, Pradeep Sangwan 2/54).
