Sehwag back in training at MRF Pace Foundation
As the highly-anticipated domestic season is fast approaching, Virender Sehwag is back in the nets. The India discard, who last played for the country in a Test match against Australia in March earlier this year, checked in at the MRF Pace Foundation on Tuesday.
The dashing opener, who was dropped from the national team following a string of dismal performances, is expected to train here for a week. The facility at MRF exposes cricketers to different playing conditions and facing Glenn McGrath’s young and talented trainees should provide Sehwag an ideal preparation ahead of the domestic season that begins with the NKP Salve Challenger Trophy on September 26.
Performing well in the domestic season holds huge significance for Sehwag especially with the Australians scheduled to tour the country for the seven-match ODI series in October before the much-talked about South Africa tour that starts in November.
Over the years, the MRF Pace Foundation, the breeding ground of fast bowlers, has also provided platform for batsmen. Ravi Shastri, Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid are some of the big names who have had occasional-yet-eventful stints here. Apart from different playing surfaces, the foundation also houses a world-class gymnasium and Olympic-sized pool for fitness training and recovery.
Sources suggest that the Delhi dasher might have prefered Chennai over Bengaluru’s National Cricket Academy which has recently lost two of its key coaches.
