Spot fixing: Police name Dawood Ibrahim, S Sreesanth in chargesheet
In the latest development in the spot fixing scandal, Delhi Police filed the chargesheet naming as many as 39 persons in the document. On Monday, Delhi Police had claimed that Dawood Ibrahim was the kingpin of the betting syndicate.
The 6,000-page charge sheet names a total of 39 persons as accused for offences of cheating and conspiracy under IPC and provisions of MCOCA.
Other notable names included in the chargesheet include Chota Shakeel, cricketers S Sreesanth and Ankeet Chavan. Delhi Police have also moved court seeking cancellation of bail granted to Sreesanth, Chavan and 19 others.
Earlier today, Bombay High Court invalidated the findings of the two-member probe panel of the BCCI by decreeing that the panel was illegal. Prior to the court's ruling, the findings of the report fuelled widespread outrage with many claiming that it was nothing but a bCCI charade. Even representatives from the sports ministry said that BCCI would have been better served had it waited for the Police probe to reach completion.
