Stalwarts rested for one-dayers
Bengaluru, Oct. 12: With the 2011 World Cup fast approaching, the selectors have decided to rest some of the seniors like Sachin Tendulkar, Harbhajan Singh and Zaheer Khan and announced a young squad for the three one-day internationals against Australia on Tuesday.
Delhi opener Shikhar Dhawan earned his maiden ODI call, after fellow Delhi openers Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir were sidelined due to injuries. Even Ishant Sharma was not considered as he is yet to recover from a knee injury sustained during the first Test against Australia in Mohali.
After missing out on a Test berth against Australia, Yuvraj Singh has been named in the squad to be led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
The selectors chaired by Krishnamachari Srikkanth, also recalled second Test centurion Murali Vijay, pacers Munaf Patel and Vinay Kumar into the team. Abhimanyu Mithun and Dinesh Karthik have been overlooked.
