Tanmay ton secures draw
Hyderabad, Dec. 28: Tanmay Agarwal, starring with a stoic 102 and was well supported by K.S.K. Chaitanya (51) and P.S. Chaitanya Reddy (77), as he ensured a draw for Hyderabad in the pre-quarterfinal of the Vijay Merchant under-16 championship against Punjab at Palakkad, Kerala.
Hyderabad, faced with the daunting task of chipping away at Punjab’s massive first innings total of 528, began strongly, with Chaitanya and Tanmay notching up an opening stand of 90.
Tanmay, who carried on even as wickets fell regularly at the other end, also shared a 118-run partnership with Chaitanya Reddy for the fourth wicket. Hyderabad eventually were all out for 361 to make sure Punjab batted again. Punjab’s second innings, however, lasted only 6 overs before the match was called a draw. Earlier in the three-day game, Punjab had declared their first innings on 528 after losing six wickets. The major stars for Punjab in the batting department were Pukhraj Tehran, who made a sublime 209.
