Team balance is good, says Sangakkara
Deccan Chargers’ skipper Kumar Sangakkara isn’t unduly bothered about the early round defeats and is confident of stepping up the pace when they taken on Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday. Given that the tournament is long-drawn, slip-ups are bound to occur.
“In the Chennai game we faltered a bit but we almost won (against) Mumbai. We are a very competitive side and have the strength to win games. We had a long break in between and have the done the homework well,” Sangakkara said on the eve of their match against the Royals.
Sangakkara also ruled out any special strategy for Royals’ in-form Ajinkya Rahane. “It is hard to devise a strategy for a particular player.
The only thing we need to do is that we try to bowl in the right areas to challenge the batsmen. We have the bowling strength and the overall balance of team is very good.”
Sangakkara also opined that the controversial switch hit, pioneered by English batsman Kevin Pietersen, is an exceptional skill. “For a player to be able to play it, he needs to be exceptionally good at it. It’s an exceptional skill to play that shot. But it’s not just KP who plays the shot.”
