Team behind my success: MSD

Kolkata, Oct. 26: The saying has it that a captain is as good as his team. And India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni thinks no differently.

Although much has been said and written about Dhoni’s ‘unique’ style of captaincy that has kept Team India unbeaten in as many as eight consecutive Test series so far, the skipper attributes all the success to good work from every member of the squad.

“It’s the team that has made me a successful captain. Nothing would have been possible had not my teammates delivered when it mattered the most,” Dhoni said here at a promotional event on Tuesday.

The Indian team at present seems to be riding high on confidence after winning the Test and a rain-affected ODI series against Australia. Importantly, the win at the Visakhapatnam one-dayer was carved out by youngster Virat Kohli’s scintillating 118 before a late flourish from Suresh Raina sealed the Aussies’ fate, which were truly encouraging signs with the 2011 World Cup closing in by the day. Despite the recent success, Dhoni doesn’t believe in resting on his laurels, stressing on the need to get all the top players of his team at prime fitness before the mega event.

“I don’t live in the past and neither do I look too far ahead. As far as the World Cup is concerned, it’s too early to think about it now... I only hope that the top players are all available for selection and there are no major injury worries,” Dhoni said.

FOCUS ON RANJI NOW: YUVRAJ

Ignored yet again for India’s upcoming Test matches against New Zealand, Yuvraj Singh looks forward to the Ranji Trophy to get back to form and stake a claim for his return to the longer format.

“I would like to concentrate on the Ranji matches and get as many runs as possible (for Punjab). I don’t want to think about the New Zealand series at present,” Yuvraj said here.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
