Teja has a ball as City crush Tripura in 3 days

Hyderabad, Nov. 19: Part time bowler Ravi Teja turned Tripura’s tormentor with a dream spell to script Hyderabad’s thumping victory on the third day of the Ranji Trophy Plate division league match at the Gymkhana grounds on Friday.

Teja’s leg-breaks earned him figures of 5 for 20, and broke Tripura’s back. The win by an innings and 35 runs meant Hyderabad earned the maximum points from the match — 6, including a bonus point for the innings win.

Hyderabad, which began the day at 277 for 4, lasted just 11.4 overs before folding up for 312. The overnight batsmen could not carry on. Sandeep (76) got out to the first ball he faced while Ahmed Quadri (58) could add just four to his individual score as the hosts lost the last six wickets for 35 runs. The visitors were worse. Barring opener Biswajit Dey and tailender Timir Chanda, none could get into the 30s as Hyderabad picked wickets at regular intervals to bowl them out with a day and almost a session to spare.

Speedster Kaneshkk Naidu took 3 for 42; Alfred Absolem 1 for 35 and Lalit Mohan 1 for 3 as captain Ravi Teja hogged the bowling honours to surprise himself. Surreal.

Coach M.V. Sridhar was all praise for the team. “Full credit to the boys who were charged up to perform. They combined really well as a unit to carve this win,” he said.

Sridhar made special mention of the newcomers. “The youngsters — Sandeep, Akshat Reddy, Vihari, Kaneshkk Naidu — are eager to get on to bigger things. There’s a lot of positive energy flowing in this team,” he added.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.
