Telefunken trump LB Shastri boys
Led by an all-round show by Abhishek Dadhwal (46 runs and 4/11), Telefunken Club beat LB Shastri Club by 29 runs to win the 2nd Amit Gupta Memorial cricket tournament at the Jamia ground in the capital on Thursday.
The final turned out to be a bowlers’ day as batsmen from both teams struggled and the 93 overs on the day yielded less than 250 runs. Ankit Dadhwal (55) for Telefunken Club was the only batsman to score a half century. Despite the efforts by Abhishek and Ankit, Telefunken could only post 137 in their 50 overs after being asked to bat first as the trio of Himanshu Bansal (4/27), Aneesh Ali (3/34) and Vishwas Bansal (3/24) bowled incisive spells to give their team a realistic chance of winning the title. However, LB Shastri’s batsmen failed to rise to the occasion and folded up for 108 in 43 overs. Abhishek, who shone with the bat earlier, continued his good form with the ball too claiming 4/11.
He was well supported by Ankush Tyagi (2/21) and Lalit Yadav (2/11). India pacer Ashish Nehra and former all rounder Madan Lal gave away the prizes after the final of the 15 team competition.
