Thakur seeks BCCI meet on spot-fixing
Cricket control board joint secretary Anurag Thakur on Friday joined a growing chorus of administrators of the sport asking that the under-fire board chief N. Srinivasan convene a meeting to discuss the fallout of the IPL spot-fixing scandal.
“I have spoken to the president and requested both to call a meeting where every member should get a chance to present his views and discuss the punishment for those guilty,” Thakur, who is also president of the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association, said here on Friday.
“A meeting has to be called by the president and secretary.
“It’s a not a numbers game. Very soon, the BCCI secretary and the president will call a meeting, we have to wait.
“Let there be a meeting where everyone can come and speak their opinion.” Thakur added.
It is learnt that Srinivasan has agreed to call for a working committee meeting next week to discuss issues following the arrest of Gurunath Meiyappan, his son-in-law and a top official of the Chennai Super Kings, besides cricketers S. Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan.
On whether Srinivasan should step down, however, Thakur did not give a direct answer, much like many of his counterparts from across the country, but agreed that the image of Indian cricket had taken a severe hit.
