Trio return after English cops nod
London, Sept. 10: Three Pakistan cricketers, skipper Salman Butt and fast bowlers Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir, who were questioned by the Metropolitan police last week over allegations of spot-fixing in the Lord’s Test against England will return to Pakistan on Friday, their law firm confirmed.
“The Metropolitan police has been notified that Mohammed Amir, Mohammed Asif and Salman Butt will return to Pakistan later this morning,” law firm Addleshaw Goddard said in a statement on behalf of the PCB and the three players. The three cricketers were questioned for long on Friday by the Scotland Yard investigative team at the Kilburn police station in north London on last Friday. They were not arrested or detained by the police.
The International Cricket Council, which last week announced provisional suspension of the three players, is yet to question the trio and will start its questioning only after the police investigation is completed. A fourth Pakistani player, bowler Wahab Riaz, will be questioned by the Met police on Tuesday over allegations of corruption.
The three players have also given undertakings to return whenever Scotland Yard demands their presence. “The players remain available to cooperate fully with the investigation,” the statement from the law firm said.
