T&T will miss Bravo, Pollard, says Steve Smith
New South Wales did not enjoy the best of starts to their Champions League campaign.
Wednesday’s clash against Trinidad and Tobago assumes significance as the team that loses will be nearly be out of contention for a spot in the semi-final. All-rounder Steve Smith spoke on the crucial match.
On T&T missing Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo: “Obviously as they are big names. Pollard and Bravo are very good players, so that’s only going to help us. (But) we worry only about our own game and we’ll give it our best tomorrow and make sure we’ll be there at the end of the game tomorrow.
On NSW’s middle order: I thought the ball got soft pretty early during the game against Cape Cobras. We need find the fence more often when the ball is new and that is also the best time to bat. Later on, it was quite hard to find the boundary and the Cobras bowled well too.
On NSW’s playing all their matches at MAC: We are better used to the conditions than T&T. We came a couple of days earlier to acclimatise and the pitch is pretty similar to the one we are using at the nets, so the boys are getting used to the conditions.
On the possible XI against T&T: The selection panel would take a call on whether veteran pacer Stuart Clark would be included in the team in place of either Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins. Clark is vastly experienced and has played a lot of cricket. He was a good part of our successful campaign in 2009 where he played a key role.
On his role with the bat: My job is to rotate the strike and also find the boundaries whenever I can. I would bat according to the demands of the situation.
