Tuskers may not remain a Kochi team anymore

Two months after a not-so-bad IPL debut, Kochi Tuskers Kerala (KTK) finds itself on a sticky wicket.

Anchor Earth Group, a member of the consortium Kochi Cricket Private Limited, it is learnt, is planning to sell its 31.4% share in the team. It is awaiting BCCI nod.

After the team finished eighth in IPL-IV, the franchisee had written to BCCI requesting a change of venue. It said Kochi was not profitable.

However, co-owner Mehul Shah said they had “not thought of selling shares so far.”

He refused comment on whether they would prefer Kochi as a home venue next season.

Meanwhile, Kerala Cricket Association has said KTK owners owed it Rs 1.2 crore for hosting matches at its stadium.

“As per the agreement, the franchisee has to pay Rs 30 lakh per match, but they have remitted amount for only one match,” said Jayesh George, Ernakulam District Cricket Association secretary.

Five KTK matches were played in Kochi.
