Unfazed NS chairs Disciplinary committee meeting
Even though the Supreme Court had on Thursday postponed a hearing on a BCCI special leave petition by at least two weeks, self-exiled BCCI president N. Srinivasan decided to chair the disciplinary committee meeting here on Friday in an apparent bid to lay the groundwork for the September 29 annual general meeting.
“I have chaired the meeting. What is more important is that we have taken some strict action against the tainted cricketers. I am still the president of the BCCI and have the right to chair the meeting,” an unfazed Srinivasan said here after Friday’s meeting.
The Supreme Court had on Thursday postponed BCCI’s petition saying it was in no hurry to dispose of the case. The BCCI had to take legal recourse after the Mumbai high court termed the panel to look into the spot-fixing row as ‘illegal and unconstitutional’. The panel had given clean chits to Srinivasan’s son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan and Rajasthan Royals co-owner Raj Kundra for alleged involvement betting at this year’s IPL.
Following the Mumbai court order, Srinivasan has been advised against chairing the working committee meetings to avoid any legal ramifications. However, the SCs decision to postpone the hearing seems to have spurred the ousted administrator to take on the consequences.
