Verbal spats will help Team India in Perth: Sourav Ganguly
The war of words between the two teams and the alleged rift talks will only spur India on to do well in the third cricket Test against Australia starting on Friday, feels former skipper Sourav Ganguly.
Australian wicket-keeper Brad Haddin fired the first salvo by calling the Indians as 'fragile'.
Indian paceman Zaheer Khan retorted back by questioning Haddin's glove work.
The tension between the two sides further later escalated when former Australia captain Ricky Ponting and Peter Siddle also joined the spat.
If that was not enough, then came a report in the Australian media that there was a rift in the visitor's dressing room ahead of third Test here with Virender Sehwag and captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni at loggerheads.
But citing the example of the monkeygate episode during India's last tour of Australia, Ganguly said India will do well here.
"I think the verbal battle could play into Indian hands. I like the way they have responded. There have been talks of a rift in the team, which to me is not true. Virender Sehwag was quoted saying it was rubbish, and I have seen nothing to suggest there is a problem between the vice-captain and M S Dhoni," Ganguly wrote in his column for 'Sydney Morning Herald'.
"The huge furore about Monkeygate in Sydney four years ago really got the Indians going, and we pulled off a remarkable win at the WACA Ground. The latest controversy has nothing on that, but it could spur the team on to better things again," he feels.
Ganguly also said that Australia are in for some hard work at Perth.
"Forget about this Test being an easy win for Australia - everything is set for a ripper of a match. The war of words has already heated up and that always sets the scene for a fascinating encounter," he added.
