Wayamba promise a better show
Dambulla, Aug. 25: The Champions League might have failed to catch the imagination of the public, but it was the way to take the game forward, feels Mahela Jayawardene. The former Sri Lanka skipper was talking during the apparel launch of Wayamba XI, winners of the Lankan inter-provisional T20 championship in Sri Lanka. The club will be sponsored by Indian firm Kunnath Pharmaceuticals.
“Last year was a bit of an eye-opener for us. It is a great opportunity for some of our players to brush shoulders with the best in the world. In my personal opinion, I can say the concept of franchises and club cricket has a lot of potential. I think that it will evolve quite a bit,” said Jayawardene.
“We are better prepared than we were last year. The experience of having played in the league previously will help us. We have been practising for three months,” said Jayawardene on Wayamba’s chances.
The club are leaving in advance to acclimatise to the conditions in South Africa.
